Did you know? It costs in excess of €10,000 per year to insure a public building such as a parish church.
With the energy crisis heating costs are over €20,000 for the parish.

Built between 1830-37, Oughterard parish church was badly damaged by fire in 1879. By 1932 it was very rundown and required extensive renovation. The magnificent Harry Clarke window was added at this time. Since then little significant work has been done on the church. In 2030 the church reaches its bi-centenary. We want to ensure it’s in good condition to flourish for the next century.

The need for renovation
Currently water ingress in the towers, severe problems in the sacristy roof, and woodworm and rot in the stairs to the gallery require urgent attention. Electrics, heating, insulation, doors and internal painting are also in poor condition.
